Indigenous Peoples & Community Resistance, Environmental Racism & Alton Gas Project – Dorene Bernard



Dorene Bernard presented 'Community Resistance Against Environmental Racism through Reconciliation' at the Red Tide International Indigenous Climate Action Summit in the tribal lands of Te Whanau-a-Apanui – Aotearoa, New Zealand. She also screened a video of the Water Protectors' Journey along the Shubenacadie River during the Red Tide Summit and Youth Conference.

Dorene is a Mi’kmaq Grassroots Grandmother, involved in community resistance against environmental racism through social justice, environmental protection and reconciliation. Her presentation focused on her experiences with the Mi’kmaq grassroots environmental movement, Mother Earth Water Walks, Idle No More, Truth and Reconciliation, Peace and Friendship Alliances, Treaty Rights, and Indigenous Climate Action.
